No bikes are allowed on the trails.Īnyela's Vineyard is the gem of Vineyards in Skaneateles! It is also the only one I am aware of given the high cost of land in the area. Nice place to hike and have a picnic by yourself or with family. You can even rent kayaks I believe on the weekends at certain times of the year. A little frog pond aswell.A gift shop is also located inside the nature center. They have a smell, touch, taste ,see area near the nature center for patrons. So one of the workers helped to guide it towards a part of the woods close by that didn't have alot of hikers. It was laying near one of the walking trails. Plenty of different benches available to sit while walking the trails which was nice. The nature center has a spot where you can watch birds inside. We saw lots yellow finches & cardinals at the bird watch area in the nature center. Lots of shade on most of the trails which keeps you cooler while walking/ hiking them.

It’s free but they would like if you donate $10 to museum. They also have a nice little gift shop with plenty of items to chose from magnets, t-shirts, candy, wooden pencils, coaster, books about Erie Canal for adults and children, and so much more!!

I highly recommend that you stop by to visit museum and give yourself at least an hour to tour. I really enjoyed everything about this museum and so happy that I went back to enjoy the exhibits etc. This museum is the last existing Weighlock station. Most of the canal no longer exist but along the canal cities have historical markets etc to keep memory going. The Erie Canal was 363 miles long and ran from Albany to Buffalo. I also learned that the street (Erie Canal Blvd) is where the canal ran until 1920. They have a boat that was used to go down canal that you can walk through and take photos. It’s in a large room so not a small cramped area. There is so much History here! They have a 15-20 minute video on history before and after construction which is very good. You will need a mask but if you don’t have one they will provide. This made my trip to Syracuse worth it!!! Both gentleman who were working were so very kind and inviting. I went one day about 15 minutes before closing (4pm) then went back today to really tour. This is a wonderful museum with a greatest staff. If your in the area or passing through, or a history buff I highly recommend seeing Fort Stanwix. Other forts in New York this extensive can cost up to 25 a person, so its really cool that this one is completely free.įort Ticonderoga and William Henry in NY are fun to visit but are both expensive and not nearly as historically accurate as Stanwix (they were both earth and timber forts like stanwix but neither was rebuilt as accurately as this one). The entire place is also free to visit which is a huge plus. This really is a must see, I also didn't even get a chance to visit the visitor center which I'm sure also had good information.

I also would recommend walking around the fort to get a good look at the full defensive line, including the dry moat and palisades. Being into archeology I appreciate that they have these open to the public. The entire fort is a replica except for some brick ruins of an old fireplace, which is well marked. National Parks service clearly did a lot of research to accurately recreate the fort. There is also a good model showing what the original fort was like and the process of rebuilding it. The staff and information around the fort does a good job of showing you what the different buildings and rooms were used for. It really transports you back in time to a revolutionary war fort. I love historic forts and this is the most accurate 18th century one I've seen.
